Smashing Pumpkins Sell Their Souls… at Target and Best Buy prices, no less.

Maaaan, you used to be about the myuuuusic!

Click pic below to learn how Smashing Pumpkins are trying to make you buy their new cd twice (or more) and where they’re making you buy it.

Zero to Greedy

I just have to say that this story totally irks me. Let’s put it this way: Smashing Pumpkins need to hurry up and realize that they are not members of that privileged group of financial role models who influence my spending habits– no matter how much I like their music.

Leave the greed to the assholes of the world, or become one yourself.

  1. I must say that this is the first I’ve heard of Smashing Pumpkins even having a new album out. Are they even relevant any more? I think they should worry more about people even buying one CD. I suspect that any fans, or curious parents perhaps, will just download all these bonus tracks illegally. Hey presto, you’ve got them without having to traipse around Walmart or one of those other hideous places that you lads have.
Also, Steve, I have a question. You mention a “privileged group of financial role models who influence” spending habits. I’d like to see who’s on that list!

  2. Yes, I agree that coerced sales are likely to create more animosity and a greater likelihood of file sharing for these ‘bonus’ songs. I once bought a piece of software for two of our machines and one of the activation codes expired before it was installed, effectively forcing me to pay for the same product again again. “Don’t think so.” was about as far as I got in the reordering process. It took me all of 7 minutes to find and download the hacked workaround and I never felt a tinge of guilt about it. There’s a huge difference between protecting intellectual rights and trying to milk consumers for all they’re worth.
