Greatest Arcade Games of the 80’s

My older brother totally ruled at the local arcade. I got special treatment there just for being his brother. He used to have crowds around him when he played games like Dragon’s Lair, Tron, and Journey. (Pretty strange concept looking back at it!)

Check out this series on the Greatest Arcade Games of the 80’s (via news.com).

Tron. Hell YEAH!!!

  1. Hi Steve,
Why have you tagged this post “autonomous learning”?

  2. Hey Michael,
Nice catch. I had originally gone off on a tangent about the role that video games played in my brother’s education and mine, but I decided to cut it in the end. The thought deserves a separate post, and may be included in my response to the excellent future of learning manifesto found here (when I finally get around to writing it!)

  3. I haven’t had time to look up exactly what “autonomous learning” is but my favourite video game when I was a kid was Berzerk on the Atari 2600. Man, it kicked ass and the bad guy Otto was pretty worrying (for a circle with eyes). Also, playing Sonic the Hedgehog and not studying ensured that I failed my Maths exam for entry to university. I had to wait a year to repeat it….in which time I got really bloody good at Sonic

  4. I used to school your brother at Dragon’s Lair, but he’d NEVER admit it… It was the only game I got further faster than he. BIF was his nic and I stole it to use as my own, just to piss ‘em off. Do you remember the Journey game?

Supercade was way cooler than Del Amo (Aladdin’s Castle)!!

Good to see ya, Steve. I’m now an avid REALITY ON A STICK reader. Work it, Bro!

  5. Jason: What is up brutha! Very nice of you to drop by, and glad to hear your version of the ‘who ruled Supercade’ debate;-) Tons of great memories from back in the Parkview Village days, ha ha. I think my chubby junior high days got kick started by my daily ice cream sundae at the Davis’ ice cream shop next door. I remember one time Brian and I got so busted for rounding up all the change in the apartment and rockin out with you at the arcade until after dark.We were all still pretty young (especially me) and Brian didn’t wear any shoes, so he was straight up filthy when we got home. Dad never hit us, but if he was ever close, that was the day. Very cool to hear from you. Look forward to catching up more homeboy.
    Steve

  6. Chubby Junior High days eh? That explains a lot! What are you up to now? About 20 sundaes an hour? Your poor wife must be sick of the sight of ice-cream.
